What is the Class 2 (Truck Licence) Course?
Completing this course will see you obtain your Class 2 Learners and then Class 2 Full Licence (if you already have your Class 2 Learners Licence, it will reduce the 6 months wait time to obtain your Class 2 Full Licence).
We will train and coach you on the theory component for both Learners and Full Licences and assess your driving ability and skills in a medium rigid vehicle (gross laden weight between 6,000kg and 18,000kg or over over 18,000kg with no more than 2 axles).
What do you need?
You must have held a full NZ Class 1 (Car) licence for at least 6 months.
You’ll need to obtain a medical certificate (unless you have presented one to NZTA within the last 5 years).
How long is the course?
Pre-Course Requirements:
Once you register, we will send you pre-course study materials (we recommend booking in advance to ensure you have enough time to complete the study materials before the course commences)
Course Duration and Unit Standard Covered
One day to complete Class 2 Learners Licence (if required)
One day to complete Unit Standard 24089 Worktime, Logbook and Fatigue Management (if required)
Half day to complete Unit Standard 17574 Operate a Class 2 Rigid Vehicle
One hour practical assessment (if truck training is required, this is an additional cost)
Note: Duration may vary slightly depending on group size
What happens once I complete the course?
You will receive a Course Completion Certificate - take this to a licensing agent (eg, AA or VTNZ) and they will process your application to show you now hold a Class 2 Full Licence (licence fees apply).
Note, you can not drive on the certificate, you must get a new licence issued
When can I complete the Class 4 Licence Course?
If you are over 25 years old, you can return in 3 months
If you are under 25 years old, you can return in 6 months

What is the Class 4 (Truck Licence) Course?
Completing this course will reduce the 6 months wait time between your Class 4 Learners and Class 4 Full Licence.
We will train and coach you on the theory component and assess your driving ability and skills in a heavy rigid vehicle (gross laden weight over 18,000kg).
What do you need?
You need to hold a Class 4 Learner Licence (there is no theory test for this), you can obtain this at your local Drivers Licence Agency/AA Centre and paying the $27.10 application fee.
You must have held a full NZ Class 2 (Truck) licence for at least 6 months (or 3 months if over 25 years old).
You’ll need to obtain a medical certificate (unless you have presented one to NZTA within the last 5 years).

$955.00 (excluding GST) if you can provide evidence that you have:
- Completed a Class 2 Approved Course within the past 12 months and/or
- Demonstrate your Worktime, Logbook and Fatigue Management level of knowledge
Unit Standard 24089 Worktime, Logbook and Fatigue
$390 (excluding GST)
Note: The above course fees exclude supply of the truck for the practical assessment.
Minimum numbers are required for all courses.
